In early October, at the construction site in Shuangyong Village, Shuangliu Town, Kaiyang County, the site preparation works for Phase I of the Kaiyang Phosphorus-Titanium-Iron-Lithium Coupled Circular Integration Project, with a total investment of 33.1 billion yuan, are nearing completion. This milestone signals the project is entering an accelerated phase of main structure construction.

Leveraging multi-element resources including phosphorus, sulfur, titanium, copper, iron, lithium and fluorine, the project plans to build production facilities for 1.4 million tons of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate co-produced with 400,000 tons of titanium dioxide, 600,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate, and 20,000 tons of lithium hexafluorophosphate.

A spokesperson from Guizhou Phosphate Chemical Group (GPC) stated that this project serves as a pivotal strategic move for the group’s layout in new energy materials. Through systematic exploration of full-resource development, whole-industry-chain circulation and all-factor innovation, it aims to build a closed-loop system featuring cascaded resource utilization and internal consumption of by-products.

Notably, phosphogypsum will be decomposed to produce sulfuric acid, which will be recycled to support phosphoric acid production. Ferrous sulfate, a by-product from titanium dioxide manufacturing, will be directly used as raw material for lithium iron phosphate. Fluorine, which accounts for merely 3% of phosphate ore content, will be recovered via the group’s proprietary technology and further processed into lithium hexafluorophosphate, the core electrolyte material for lithium batteries.

“Once fully completed, the project will grow into one of Southwest China’s largest production bases for phosphorus-based cathode materials, bringing the group closer to its development vision of building a hundred-billion-yuan world-leading phosphate enterprise,” the official added.
